Supervisory Nurse
Implement changes in existing programs and develops new programs to meet emerging needs. Prepare reports on activities of the nursing program. Develop and maintain criteria for standards of nursing care and for procedures to audit compliance with established standards. Direct the assignment of all nursing personnel to meet the needs for patient care. Evaluate performance of nursing personnel. Education A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (external link), Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs (external link), Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education (external link), or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (external link) at the time the degree was obtained. Degree from Foreign Nursing School:
Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools (external link) is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools. AND Licensure For all grade levels and positions, applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination (external link). In addition, they must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. Oversee a nursing division in an operating health care facility; management ability to delegate authority; formulate and implement nursing services in accordance with existing requirements, methods and procedures; conduct meetings and conferences with subordinate supervisors and staff; provide leadership and direction to nursing programs ensuring proper health care management, evidence based practice, safe and quality patient care; establish and maintain compliance with various regulatory accreditations, professional agencies, administrative policies and procedures, laws, regulations, standards and directives that are applicable to the organization; maintains positive partnerships with community, tribal, and educational programs and institutions; and ensure accountability to the governing board. Supervisory Abilities:
This is a supervisory position and candidates, in addition to the professional qualifications listed, must have demonstrated in their work experience or training, that they possess, or have potential to develop, the qualities of successful supervision, as required for this position. Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
