Director of Nursing - DON

DEFINITION: Under administrative direction, serves as the State-mandated Director of Nursing; provides policy direction, organizes, and administers the nursing activities and programs of the Nursing Department; promotes and advocates for various public health issues and initiatives; and performs other related duties as assigned.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS: This is a single position management classification in the nursing Department. The Director of Nursing shall be deemed the responsibility for developing and implementing department-wide policy regarding nursing utilization, activities, and training and by the managers' responsibility for managing the programs put in place by the Nursing Department.
Develops and implements standards of nursing practice and nursing protocols for the Nursing Department; provides nursing expertise and input into the formulation of departmental policies and participates in strategic planning for the department; approves nursing and clinical nursing procedures;
2. Ensures that nursing staff are appropriately certified; assists in development and implementation of orientation program for nursing staff.
Establishes and maintains on-going training programs for nursing staff; periodically reviews and updates departmental nursing protocols to ensure they remain current; establishes and reviews department-wide nursing performance measures and outcomes; provides direction and consultation to operations managers to improve nursing performance and outcomes; reviews medical aspects of nursing staff performance and may recommend disciplinary actions.
3.Analyzes the utilization of nursing staff in order to improve efficiency and effectiveness of nursing staff allocations and deployments; collaborates with department managers, staff, and community groups to identify trends and needs for nursing services; develops long range plans for nursing needs and utilization; plans, develops and may implement new projects or programs.
4.Collaborates with departmental program and clinic managers to identify and solve departmental issues requiring nursing expertise; works to promote and enhance quality health care for the various populations and communities served by the Nursing Department.
5.Develops and implements plans to improve access to appropriate plans of care and education for high-risk individuals; trains staff in counseling and prevention techniques in order to improve the health of high-risk residents.
6.Reviews and analyzes proposed legislation pertaining to nursing for potential impacts to the department; prepares reports, plans, and provides other department executives and managers of appropriate/necessary actions needed to take place.
7.Represents the department on various committees; determines appropriateness of Nursing Department involvement in outside activities and commits department resources for appropriate efforts; forms relationships with schools of nursing and identifies ways to enhance recruitment of nursing staff.
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS: Possession of a valid OK license as a Registered Nurse and State Board of Registered Nursing.
1. Four years of progressively responsible experience in public Long-Term care nursing, including knowledge of hospice and end-0f-life services is preferred.
2. a combination of training, education, and experience that is equivalent to the employment standard listed above and that provides the required knowledge and abilities.
Ability to: establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers and community groups; communicate effectively both orally and in writing; represent the department on controversial issues with tact and diplomacy; make presentations to the public, community organizations, and various boards and committees.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
